Here’s a plain-English overview of Michigan’s consumer rules and product standards. This is general information only — always refer to the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) and state law for the latest requirements.

Who can buy?

  • Adults 21+ with valid government-issued ID.
  • Medical patients may access medical products with an active card.

Possession & home grow (Adult-Use)

  • Up to 2.5 ounces in public (no more than 15 grams of concentrate).
  • At home: up to 10 ounces and any amount produced by legally grown plants.
  • Home grow: up to 12 plants per residence, not visible to the public.

Safety testing (what’s checked)

  • Potency & homogeneity (THC/CBD)
  • Heavy metals
  • Residual solvents (for extracts/infused products)
  • Water activity / moisture, foreign material
  • Microbials / mycotoxins (as directed by CRA)

All items must pass CRA safety compliance testing before sale.

Potency limits (Adult-Use edibles)

  • Per serving: typically 10 mg THC.
  • Common package limits include up to 200 mg THC for many solid edibles (e.g., gummies) and up to 100 mg THC for beverages (subject to CRA rules).
  • Total THC considers both delta-9 and delta-8 THC; delta-8 content is capped as a % of total in infused products.

Packaging & labeling

  • Child-resistant retail packaging; universal THC symbol required on cannabis products.
  • Label includes product name, licensee, METRC tag/lot, net weight, ingredients (for edibles), potency per serving and package, test lab, and required warnings (e.g., “Keep out of reach of children,” impairment/driving warning, pregnancy warning, poison control hotline).
  • Edibles must present clear servings and avoid designs appealing to minors.

Where you can use

  • Private property where the owner allows it.
  • No public consumption, schools, or federal property.
  • Never drive while impaired; cannabis DUI is illegal.

Tracking & recalls

  • Products are tracked in METRC from seed to sale.
  • Failed tests and recalls are handled per CRA procedures; products must pass before sale.

Good to know

  • Interstate transport/shipping is illegal.
  • Cannabis affects everyone differently; start low, go slow.
  • Store securely away from children and pets.
